Testimony Poem

Anonymous Boy

Acceptance of the unbelievable
Swings from incredulity to suspicion
Skepticism to belief
Certainty to doubt and disbelief again
The diarist occasionally voiced the hope
Far fetched though he knew it was
Perhaps deportation was not by definition
Synonymous with murder
Complex interplay of suspicion, inference, and experience dispelled hopes
Even for the most optimistic thinkers
